Creation - John 1:1-5
John 1:1-5
This world, the universe, and even you were not created by accident. Creation was a deliberate act by a loving God. It wasn’t the result of gods fighting. It wasn’t the result of random mutations and chance. God did it. And because of that, we respond with praise and thanksgiving.
Creation is an important part of our doctrine. This is perhaps why John starts his Gospel account by alluding to Genesis 1. Even down to using the same three words “In the beginning…” In the beginning was the Word. That Word is Jesus. Jesus was there at creation (God spoke everything into existence). John is making the point that Jesus is God and that God cares about us because He created us.
If God isn’t Creator, nothing else makes sense. Why would Jesus become man to suffer and die for a bunch of random molecules? Why would we be expected to worship Him if He wasn’t creator? Life would have no purpose and the Gospel would be meaningless.
But God did create everything. Jesus died for us because we are his creatures. And our purpose is to “Fear God and keep his commandments.” (Ecclesiastes 12:13)
“Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.” (Revelation 4:11)
