November Library Update
November 2020
Dear CLC Members,
Our church library collection has greatly increased this year — In fact, 130 new titles have been added!!
Many of these are modern resources that were purchased through Concordia Publishing House, our Synod’s publisher, and are up-to-date and relevant (In fact, we even have a book addressing the pandemic!).
These books and booklets are a tremendous resource on a variety of topics for theologians of all ages. Through them you can learn how to share the faith, go deeper into concepts like Vocation, Idolatry, and a Theology of the Cross, take comfort through life’s various challenges, and review the basics of the Christian faith.
Although it was hard to narrow it down, I’d like to highlight just a few of these great new resources. Find an updated catalogue of the New Additions HERE, and of course, stop by the library to browse. If you would like to contribute to this ministry, drop off a donation to the Library Fund or check out our book sale in the Fellowship Hall.
A Simple Explanation Series: Holy Communion, Heaven and Hell, the Church Year, Separation of Church and State...You name it, these small booklets have it covered. We now have the complete set of 10 from Concordia Publishing House. If you have half an hour, sit down with one of these great booklets at the church library (These can’t be checked out, but there are a few in the series available by the Narthex that you can take home.)
How to Respond Series: How do you respond to someone who follows a different religion, whether it’s a friend or someone who knocks on your door? These books give insight on how to respond to Jehovah’s Witnesses, Muslims, the New Age, Judaism, and the Mormons.
Arch Books: Thanks to donations, the church’s collection of Arch books for kids has greatly expanded! We have over 55 new Arch Books, PLUS the new Life of Jesus collection containing 12 stories! (At the start of the year we had 30 Arch books!) With rhyming verses, Arch books tell the story of the Bible and are a great way to share the faith with our young children. These will be a great asset for our families.
Life’s Challenges: We have a variety of titles to help you during life’s challenges. Titles include: Without This Ring: Surviving Divorce; Living with Grief: Bound by Sorrow, Wrapped in Comfort; Living with Dying: Blessings and Prayers for Those Who Grieve; Never Forsaken: God’s Mercy in the Midst of Miscarriage; Waiting: A Bible Study on Patience, Hope, and Trust; Blessings and Prayers for Those with Cancer; Cancer: Now What?; Patience and Perfection: Finding Peace in God's Plan for You.
Young Adult: Two graphic novels on Martin Luther and Katie Luther are the newest additions to our new Young Adult section and are fun reads!
Books and resources can be checked out for up to 2 months by filling out the card in the back of the book with your name and the date and depositing it in the basket. Especially since these are new materials, please help prevent books from getting lost so they can benefit our congregation for years to come.
Besides new materials, the church library has other great resources - Fiction books, a Young Adult section, Luther’s works, The Book of Concord, the Lutheran Study Bible, an audio Bible on CDs, Lutheran Witness Magazines...The list goes on and on! Please email me if you have any questions, and I’m happy to make recommendations. Also check out the CPH podcast for author interviews, which make great introductions to the books.
Happy reading,
Kaylin
