Uncertain and Unsettled

Uncertain and Unsettled

“But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence.  They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water.  Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit. -  Jeremiah 17:7-8 NLT

Do you prefer to have things planned out in advance?  Do you like to be prepared?  Do you feel better when you know the plan?  For many of us, there is a sense of security in knowing what lies ahead.

Learning to take things as they come is an important lesson the Lord has been teaching me in recent years.  There are so many things in our lives that can change dramatically in an instant - relationships, health, family well-being, home maintenance, financial stability, job security, and so much more.  When we dwell on our “lack of control” we begin to feel uncertain and unsettled (even worried and afraid).

Our trust, as dearly loved and saved children of God, is in the LORD.  He is our hope (the expectation of great things to come) and our confidence (we can rely on Him).  Isn’t it comforting to know that God knows what our future holds.  Even when we don’t have the answers, He knows how the story ends.  When we lean on Him and turn to His Word, we are not swayed by the wind and storms in this life.

As I was relocating to my new office and moving files, I came across a children’s song that I absolutely love.   It is called, “Great Big God.”  It is a great reminder that even when you feel uncertain and unsettled, your “Great Big God” has a hold of you – He loves you and is in control.
Here are a few words from the song…

Great Big God (by Mark Pendergrass)

You hung all the stars and named them one by one; You rolled out the moon and lit the sun.  Tipping up the mountains, pouring out the sea; then You turn’d around and You made me.

You’re a great big God, a very busy God, but You take time for me.  You’re a great big God, a very busy God, but you take time for me

You control the thunder, cause the wind to blow, send the driving rain and silent snow.  Open ev’ry flower, color ev’ry tree; then You sit right down and talk to me.

You’re a great big God, a very busy God, but You take time for me.  You’re a great big God, a very busy God, but you take time for me

God’s Blessings,
Tammy.
