Shelter Through the Storms

Shelter Through the Storms

“I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace.
In this world you will have trouble.  But take heart!
I have overcome the world.”  (John 16:33 NIV)

Just a few days ago I decided to pick up and read an old devotional book I hadn’t looked at in years.  The description of peace given by the author, Alvin Rogness, caught my attention.  Here’s what he wrote…

“Two artists were asked to draw their concept of peace.  One threw on his canvas a mountain lake, sheltered on all sides by boulders, the surface of its waters like a mirror.  The other drew a thundering waterfall, at its base a birch tree, and in its branches a nest with a mother bird sweetly singing to her young.  This is called peace.”

This beautiful visual reminds us that true, unshakeable peace does not depend on our circumstances.  Sure, we all enjoy the calm that comes when everything seems to be going our way.  But in John 16:33, we learn that we will all face trouble at some point.

As you read these words today, you may be experiencing pressure, hurt, illness, temptation, or anger.  You may feel as though you are surrounded by storms.  Peace may seem a million miles away.  But take heart!  Our God, who loves and saved you, will wrap His loving arms around you.  He will be your shelter through the storms.  Listen for the sweet sound of His voice guiding you through your life and reassuring you that you are never alone.

The One who has overcome the world, will fight your battles and grant you His peace.  Rest in Him.

God’s Blessings,
Tammy
