The Belt of Truth: Psalm 60

Psalm 60 is David’s psalm to teach us how to deal with defeat and adversity and even when God himself is the one causing it! 

David teaches us that we do not have to be pious but can tell God that he is the one causing the grief. But this teaches us not to flee from God but rather to God. For that is the attitude of belief. When God is the enemy it is to God that we should flee to refuge. 

God then gives his answer as the earth totters and shakes, he will come through on his promises. This psalm teaches us to fall back to God’s promises no matter what. 

Indeed the promise at the end is one of confidence. If David did not mince words when he labeled God has the cause of the failure. He also has no doubt that God will come through for his people for the sake of his promise. 

For us, God has made promises to us in our baptism into Christ and this is something we always flee to refuge for.
