The Belt of Truth: Psalm 86

Feb 23, 2024    Pastor Andrew Belt

Psalm 86 hears a voice we haven’t heard in Book 3 of the Psalter (73-89): David.

The theme of this book is the fall of David’s line and the death of the kingdom, and the sorrow and laments that follow.

This psalm, we get to hear of the King himself, David. Or better yet, we hear Jesus Christ himself speaking through David.

And we hear that the King is suffering. He is dying and is facing ridicule and mocking. And though his enemies surround him, Jesus cries out to his Father to do what only God can do: save in a way that is unique: to bring resurrection from the grave.

Twice the psalm echoes and directly quotes Exodus 34, where God had spoken of his eternal qualities.

Here we come to see that Jesus gives us these words in Psalm 86 to pray in order to teach us the way and the truth and the life.
