The Belt of Truth: Psalm 109:1-15

Jun 10, 2024    Pastor Andrew Belt

Along with Psalm 137, Psalm 109 employs some of the harshest language for the enemies of God that is used in the Psalter.

Language of the destruction of life and the suffering even of the wicked’s family has caused many Christians to shy away from this psalm altogether.

Yet it is this psalm that the church in Acts 1 saw as fulfillment of the prophecy concerning Judas. He is the one who lied and betrayed the Lord. The apostles even saying that the Holy Spirit is the one who inspired David’s words for Pslam 109.

We must always remember then that these psalms are not some personal vendetta, but the response to evil that threatens God’s love and action in the world.

And it is also a warning for us, that we would not fall into the same rebellion and sin against God’s mercy and grace through his Son. May the Lord indeed have mercy!
