The Belt of Truth: Psalm 65
Psalm 65, along with Psalms 66-68 form a unit of worship/harvest psalms. Each will praise God for his gifts and goodness, especially to his people.
Psalm 65 begins with the temple, the people of God, in view. In the temple flows God’s salvation. He atones for people’s sins and all people will draw near to him. This psalm forms a thought when Jesus says that God’s house is a house of prayer for all people.
Then the care that God has flows outward. The creation is described with God’s love and care in mine. And God is over abundant, he cares intimately for the creation’s care and wellbeing.
As the maker and the ruler, God is the sustainer. The end of the psalm loops us back to the beginning at the creation brings forth abundant sheep and grain, items used in the worship and sacramental life of God’s people in the temple.
