The Belt of Truth: Psalm 50:16-23

Sep 4, 2023    Pastor Andrew Belt

God comes forth as the judge and the one who will vindicate his people!

The aim of Psalm 50, which takes cues from Joshua 22, Isaiah, Matthew 13, and Revelation 2-3 is the view of God coming as the judge.

Then the psalm backs up and God gives us the opportunity to know this and live life rightly before him before he does come as judge. God gives us every chance to turn to him.

The issue that God has with his people is that their hearts are far from him. They may do the right thing, but their hearts are not in line. God wants them in spirit and truth while also not neglecting what they do.

God owns all the creation and cannot be bought off, and while he chastises his people, he rebukes the wicked among them in vs. 16-23.

This psalm sets us up for Psalm 51 where the tension is finally broken by the response of King David.
