The Belt of Truth: Psalm 14

Psalm 14 describes the fool, the one who does not consider God. Foolishness is something that is deliberately chosen in the Bible, and here the foolishness leads to thinking: There is no God.

This functional atheism is born out of the folly and not the other way around and it is the turning aside from what is self-evident. In many cases it is how God makes himself known in the creation.

This Psalm goes on to describe the actions of the folly, that they will persecute the righteous, or God’s people. They express that folly in the rejection of God’s people.

But we are told that their plans are for naught, for God is with the righteous and will deliver them, in ways that are often not looked for.
