The Belt of Truth: Psalm 13

Psalm 13 begins with a series of four “How Long?” To God. This desperate cry is a way of avoiding direct accusation to God as well as faith knowing that God will act, while at the same time longing for him to act. “Come Lord Jesus Come!”

Then three consequences are listed if God should not act. That death will claim him, enemies taunt him and his foes triumph over him.

the prayer ends on a note of certainty the How Long will come because God will act according to his Steadfast Love.

Knowing how God has shown us love and forgiveness in Christ, we know with certainty that God will also give us all things, as St. Paul says in Romans 8.
