The Belt of Truth: Psalm 103

May 6, 2024    Pastor Andrew Belt

Psalm 103 and 104 are a pair of twin psalms that have the refrain of “Bless the Lord, O my soul.”

We see here that the psalm is plumbing the depths of our hearts. The Spirit is searching within us as Paul would put it and we learn through these twin psalms for what to pray and discern in our prayers.

Namely, God work of creation (psalm 104) and his work of redemption (psalm 103).

Psalm 103 highlights God’s work in our salvation. And how deep his steadfast love goes. One has to wonder if St. Paul had psalm 103 in the back of his mind as he wrote Romans 8 or Ephesians 4 when he describes the height and depth of God’s love for us and how that love cannot be interfered with in all creation.

Using language of the Exodus, we are colored to see how God brings about his steadfast love to each and every generation.
