The Belt of Truth: Psalm 40:11-17
Jul 17, 2023 • Rev. Andrew Belt
Psalm 40 ends with a tension that on the surface seems to undo how the Psalm began.
The Psalm began with delighting in God’s salvation. That his salvation already occurred and now we are secure.
Verses 11-17 then give weight to the struggle and evil and surround him. And he asks God for deliverance and confident that God will.
Some take these verses to be a different time in David’s life, but we would do well to note that the same happens to us. We are confident of Christ’s salvation to us. But yet we are also surrounded by our disasters and worries.
This psalm brings to life and gives word to the struggle that all Christians face and have who are in Jesus Christ.
