The Belt of Truth: Psalm 23
Psalm 23 describes how the Lord is our Shepherd, or the one who guides us in life. We are sheep and are not the source of our life, we are not in control.
So God leads us. The certainty is first given of where God leads, maybe in spite of the evidence around us. But he leads us for the sake of his name.
And our Lord Jesus leads us through the places where he has gone ahead of us. Jesus has carved the path through the valley of the shadow of death and despair. And he gives us life.
The Psalm then weaves us through images of feasting and abundance that comes from the Lord’s hand using imagery that brings to mind the Exodus wilderness wandering, God’s promised covenant love, and what Jesus, our Good Shepherd does for us, in the feeding of the 5000 and in being the one who lays down his life for his sheep. He does this so we can stand before him with God’s people forever, or, on that day.
