If you are trying to find Jesus when you open up to Psalm 22, you do not have to look far. The opening words give us a jolt if we are familiar with Jesus on the cross. “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”  Read More

Jacob has lived a rather extraordinary and difficult life. To use his own words in chapter 47, “The days of my sojourning are 130 years. Few and evil have been the days of the years of my life and they have not attained to the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their sojourning.”   Read More

Moses is just minding his own business as a shepherd when he comes upon a curious sight. There on Mt. Horeb, also known as Mt. Sinai, Moses sees a plain old bush that is lit on fire. As Moses continues to stare, he notes that the bush is not burning up. The leaves are still nice and green, the wood is not being reduced to ash.  Read More

Advent 2023: November 16 - Psalm
on November 16th, 2023
While last week we covered Psalm 1, this week we push ahead into the next Psalm, Psalm 2. A good thing to remember when reading the Psalms is the structure of the book. on November 9th, 2023
Blessed is the man. That is how the whole book of Psalms begins. But who is this blessed man? Psalm 1 is not speaking of mankind generically. It is not saying, “blessed is the type of person who does this.” That is not right. The way the Hebrew says it has in mind a specific person.  Read More

Isaac is a type of Jesus Christ. By type, we could say a “foreshadowing.” Moments in the life of Isaac will suddenly remind us of Jesus Christ. We see that in Genesis 22 today.  Read More
